Dr Jessica Tam, Business Director of the Hong Kong Council of Social Service (HKCSS), and Mr Kenneth To, Senior Manager of Food and Pharmaceutical Division of the CMA Testing, were interviewed yesterday on Now TV's News Magazine to introduce the Guideline of Care Food Standard (the Guideline) and explain the purpose of establishing the "Care Food" Greater Bay Area (GBA) standards.
During the program, Dr. Tam introduced the Guideline jointly launched by HKCSS, the University of Hong Kong, and the Chinese University of Hong Kong in 2023. The Guideline is based on the International Dysphagia Diet Standardisation Initiative (IDDSI), supplemented with scientific data, to enable manufacturers and importers to apply laboratory testing methods for mass-produced Care Food products. The discussion also touched on the social welfare sector's use of elderly-friendly technology and cross-border elderly care issues. However, Hong Kong elders retiring in mainland China face inconsistent Care Food standards. Therefore, HKCSS and CMA Testing Centre are collaborating to establish unified "Care Food" GBA standards, creating a common "Care Food Language".
