The Hong Kong Council of Social Service (HKCSS) collaborated with the Chinese University of Hong Kong's Food Research Centre and the University of Hong Kong's Swallowing Research Laboratory. Adopting the International Dysphagia Diet Standardisation Initiative (IDDSI) as a foundation and complemented by scientific data and locally applicable terminology, a clear and localised Guideline of Care Food Standard (guideline) has been developed. 

 

Building upon the foundation of the International Dysphagia Diet Standardisation Initiative (IDDSI), this guide further introduces the Care Food Labels, aiming to assist both the sector and individual users in applying localised guidelines and enhancing public awareness of Care Food. The Care Food Labels feature simple, clear icons that indicate the level and explanations of the consistency of the food or drink and suitability for individuals with specific physiological conditions. These labels serve as a crucial communication channel between suppliers and individual users. By reading the Care Food Labels, consumers can promptly access relevant information about the products, aiding them in selecting suitable options. Also, by adopting the Care Food Labels, suppliers can develop standardised Care Food products, thereby expanding their existing market and increasing their supply. Moreover, these labels can help suppliers offer easily comprehensible information on their products, making them more accessible to the general public. 

 

Once suppliers or restaurants register through an online form, they can proceed to download and use the Care Food Labels. Users of the Care Food Labels must adhere to the Guideline of Care Food Standard, the Care Food Labels Application Manual, as well as all other terms and conditions set by the Hong Kong Council of Social Service and its Care Food Working Group regarding the usage of the Care Food Labels.
