Care Food Around You - 'Eat with Joy' Care Food Seminar Series & Exhibition Comes to Sham Shui Po District

Over the past two months, the Care Food Working Group of the Hong Kong Council of Social Service has partnered with Hong Kong Public Libraries to organize a series of 3 seminars and exhibitions in Sham Shui Po District. Today, on World Swallowing Day (December 12), the Group hosted the "World Swallowing Day Carnival" at Sham Shui Po Public Library.

Dr. Karen Chan Man-Kei, Director of the Swallowing Research Laboratory in the Faculty of Education at The University of Hong Kong, and Ms Wong Wing-chen, Editor-in-Chief of <Care Food – Home Edition: A Comprehensive Guide for Caregivers of People with Swallowing Difficulty>, shared insights on how new caregivers can address the problems of swallowing difficulties.

The carnival also featured cooking demonstrations by winners of the Care Food Cooking Competition 2023 and representatives from JL Trade & Marketing Limited, while providing information on supporting caregivers of individuals with swallowing difficulties.

We extend our gratitude to the Swallowing Research Institute (Faculty of Education, HKU), the Department of Chinese and Bilingual Studies at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, St. James' Settlement, and Jockey Club “Age at Home” Gerontech Education and Rental Service for participating in the roadshow.

The public exhibition will conclude in three days (December 15). Admission is free, so don't miss this opportunity to visit!

Locations: Po On Road Public Library, Lai Chi Kok Public Library, Sham Shui Po Public Library

Exhibition Highlights:

  • Care Food dish models

  • Pre-packaged products

  • Swallowing aid utensils

  • Information on swallowing difficulties, Care Food, and caregiver support

Next year, the Care Food Working Group will continue organizing various community education activities to support individuals with swallowing difficulties, caregivers, and other stakeholders. Stay tuned for updates!
