Innovator's Ideas in Practice: "Caregiver Recharge Station"

The five innovators of this year recently used the "Imagination Practice" fund to organize an inter-agency joint event - "Caregiver Charging Station", with the theme of caring for caregivers. It aims to provide caregivers with a space to relax and breathe through multiple media, so that caregivers can find a moment of peace in their busy lives.

The exhibition presents the real stories and feelings of caregivers through texts, photos, and audio recordings, allowing participants to experience the efforts and challenges of caregivers, and drawing more people's attention to this important issue.

In addition, the event specially invites young friends to perform music performances. By performing songs from different eras, they can feel the hardships of caregivers while participating in the activities, and enhance mutual understanding and support. There is also a perfume blending workshop, allowing participants to recall the smell of "happiness" and create their own scent to accompany everyone in the future.

The founders thoughtfully prepared ethereal drums as souvenirs for those who attended. I hope everyone can heal themselves and others through music when they return home.

We hope that the exhibition can be an opportunity to touch the hearts of the public and arouse care and empathy for caregivers.

Summary Day and Commendation Ceremony

The fourth annual "Innovators" program's summary day and commendation ceremony was successfully held recently, bringing together social welfare workers, cross-sector partners, and innovators to witness the program's achievements and growth! The event focused on "people-centeredness," "original aspirations," "co-creation," and "design thinking," showcasing the transformation and collaborative power of innovators through diverse activities.

The event began with an opening presentation by Dr. Tam Ying-Chien, Business Director of the Social Welfare Association. In her presentation titled "Internal Innovation in the Social Welfare Sector," she explored how social welfare organizations can drive change through innovative thinking and used the example of Japanese entrepreneur Kazuo Inamori to emphasize the core value of "original intention," inspiring the staff present to reflect and make breakthroughs.

The conference premiered a "Highlights of the Project" video, which took the audience on a journey through the innovator training and co-creation projects, showcasing the efforts of the innovators and the teamwork between them. From design thinking workshops to practical collaboration, the video demonstrated the efforts of the innovators and the teamwork between them.

Following this, the five innovators took turns sharing their personal journeys and project experiences through "tree ring cards," showcasing their growth and transformation, and allowing the audience to feel the warmth and mission of social welfare work.

Ms. Chan Pui-yin, General Manager of Very Hong Kong, shared her experiences in "Cross-sector Co-creation - Experience Sharing," offering insights on how to break down sectoral barriers and create greater social benefits through collaboration.

Congratulations again to the five innovators this year for completing their plans. The completion of the project is like putting a seed that is about to germinate into the soil. I hope you will bring the proceeds from the project back to the organization, or even extend it to different sectors, so as to plant lush flowers and continue the spirit of innovation!

Innovator Training Camp III + Gas Station III

The recently held Innovator Training Camp III took the same class of innovators to To Kwa Wan's studio of #乐在Manufacturing. During the morning gas station session, Mr. Wu Bofeng , senior manager of the Jockey Club Social Innovation Design Institute and former head of #乐在Manufacturing , introduced his own experience, shared his path of exploration from the perspective of a slash family, and shared how Happy Manufacturing's co-creation with different units over the years has been implemented in real life.

Paddy talked about the experience of builders and advocates, and encouraged participants to be brave in trying and burying. He also introduced the concept of "try first" through the trolley renovation project, and encouraged everyone to practice the concept of "Trial & Error" in "design thinking". At the same time, he reminded social workers that they can start from the perspective of service users, and even reinterpret the word "PLAY" to improve the plan, so as to achieve the concept of truly co-creating with users, rather than simply letting users become one of the project participants. Through programs such as the "KMB Short Film Production Vocational Learning Programme" and the "Tai Hang Time and Space Art Self-guided Tour", she demonstrated how "co-creation" occurs through community collaboration.

By using the A-to-Z urban texture map, participants are reminded to pay more attention to the different spatial structures in the communities they are familiar with, and to gain a deeper understanding of the history and stories of the area by observing regional urban planning. Finally, the participants then visited the district to truly experience the urban context of To Kwa Wan and visited the "To Kwa Wan Five-Star Team" store. Participants were encouraged to understand the characteristics of the community and walk with the community.

Innovator Training Camp II + Gas Station II

Training Camp II has been successfully completed recently. We went to the #YWCA天拉吧# Tin Shui Wai Story Center to listen to the curator - #小宇's sharing during the morning gas station session and learn about his experience in building a community and using art to tell stories.

At the beginning of the activity, the "tape can talk" format allowed the innovators and participants to use tapes of different colors and lengths to collage different patterns on the countertop according to different themes. It was a creative warm-up that allowed everyone to experience it first-hand.

After receiving the call, Xiaoyu personally shared his different ideas and experiences in community work in Tin Shui Wai. He and his colleagues also led a group of participants to visit Tin Shui Wai Park and introduced the activities that Tin La Bar had held in the Tin Shui Wai community. Whether it is the jingle instrument of the light rail-themed "705.5 Circular Line Stop Sign", the use of unused telephone booths for exhibitions in the park, or the flower signs introducing plants, they all use real examples to show how to make good use of existing space and facilities, and use simple materials and creativity to connect communities and neighbors.

After visiting the park, Xiaoyu encouraged the participants to participate in the "Park Rhapsody" session. They used film and paintbrushes to express their imagination and imagine the activities that could be held in the park. Then they merged and exchanged their ideas with other participants who had thought about different types of activities. Together they took the film and walked around different corners of the park to "check in" and add the fictional creativity in their minds to the reality in the form of photos.

Xiaoyu's sharing at the end of the event made everyone think again about the struggles and choices they encounter when working in the social welfare sector. He hoped to help everyone and regain their belief in work, which resonated with all the participants.

We hope that participants will be inspired by this event to make more use of and pay attention to the existing places and resources around them, and then boldly imagine and finally combine other people's ideas to create and nurture unlimited new possibilities together.

In addition to the gas station session in the morning, in the afternoon, the training partner # Yanaitang Youth Dream Factory also taught the tools of design thinking, allowing innovators to use the tools to identify the real needs of service recipients, define problems, and use the defined problems to create bridges and come up with interventions or solutions. The five innovators sat together and shared the laughter and pain points of the service recipients through interviews earlier. They used these findings to define goals, help everyone synchronize their views, and discuss solutions. They practice the spirit of co-creation and collaborate with each other to create more diverse content.

During the process, the innovators put aside all existing frameworks through the "Wandering Idea Bridge" and came up with ideas in a wild and unbridled way. They are all very creative and come up with many novel ideas. Although the bridge imagined in this step may not be completely suitable for implementation, it may have unexpected effects. Just like the activity "Rhapsody in the Park" led by Xiaoyu, the guest speaker in the morning: when everyone imagines the activities that can be done in the park, many unexpected ideas will appear when co-workers jam with each other, and new possibilities will be discovered!

Of course, when co-workers implement plans, they often need to consider many practical considerations to find a bridge that is both creative and practical. We believe that design thinking tools can help organizations more effectively address the needs of service recipients in their daily work. At the same time, they consider necessity, feasibility, effectiveness, innovation and other aspects to improve service effectiveness.

After a whole afternoon of design thinking concussion, the innovators should have a lot of ideas hidden in their minds. What is this good bridge system? I wonder if they will use the idea of the plan to implement the fund? Let’s all wait and see!

Innovator Training Camp I

The first innovator training camp of the 4th "Social Welfare Institution Innovator Training Program" was officially held a few days ago. Thank you for your participation. I hope that all colleagues in the social welfare sector can take good care of themselves first, and then go into the community to stick to their jobs and take care of others.

In the first part of the activity (the gas station session), the planning team invited the Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) instructor Maggie Lin to use the meditation method to let everyone observe and feel their own breathing and emotions. It also reminded co-workers that they can use different methods to relax in daily life, listen to the needs of their own bodies, and first have the motivation to continue taking care of others.

In addition to taking care of their own physical and mental needs, the project team also invited colleagues from the Caritas Grassroots Organization Development Program to lead participants to visit Kun Shan Lane in Cheung Sha Wan, which is about to undergo reconstruction work, to share their past experiences in building a community network. They also invited neighbors to share their experiences, telling how co-workers helped the neighbors face the difficulties of life when facing reconstruction and how to pass on the sentiments of Kun Shan Lane, which carries many heartwarming stories, to let more people know it. Of course, there were heart-warming moments between neighbors and co-workers during the sharing. Participants felt that even though they face difficulties in community building work, they rely on the connections between different people in the community to trigger many humane memories.

In addition to conducting silent observation exercises and visiting Jianshanli, the owners of the activity venue #Kexie also led participants to visit. They rented an entire tenement building, opened a cafe and bookstore with a tourism theme, and often lent space to hold various community activities. The shop owners themselves are also willing to share their travel experiences and understanding of international relations with others. The bookstore also sells a variety of books related to culture and travel from around the world. Through their sharing, everyone has broadened their horizons and seen the possibilities of space and the variability of people.

Between the activities, the planning team arranged to have lunch with the innovators and representatives of the host organizations, which provided more opportunities for communication and allowed them to get to know each other better outside of work.

In the final session, the training partner Yan Oi Tang Youth Dream Workshop teaches the tools of design thinking, allowing everyone to start from the perspective of the service recipients, gradually find out the pain points faced by the recipients, analyze the cause and effect of the problem, and even come up with innovative ideas that can truly respond to and solve the problem. We hope that innovators and hosting organizations can be inspired by this thinking model during the shadow internship process and even at work, and come up with more ideas that are both beneficial to society and can actually solve problems.

Innovation Launch Day & Internship Matching Day

The fourth edition of the "Social Welfare Institutions Innovator Training Program" has officially begun. A meeting day has been held earlier, and five social welfare colleagues have been selected by the review team to become this year's innovators. The "Innovation Launch Day and Internship Matching" will also be held on Wednesday (March 12).

This "Innovation Launch Day and Internship Matching" is the first time that this year's innovators and host organizations meet. Everyone gets to know each other through warm-up games and writes down their commitment to the project through commitment leaves. I hope that everyone will see the “Promise Tree” at events in the future to remind themselves of the promises they made.

In the matching session, the innovators and host organizations communicated in groups, got to know each other and scored to complete the matching. Every innovator and co-worker of the host organization was very involved and gained new connections from the activities, thus achieving the effect of building a network.

We look forward to creating new sparks among the innovators and host organizations in the future, and moving forward side by side on the road of innovation through the plan, moving towards the future!
